the white, white sand
A dark-eyed maiden and her tall lover man
With surprise and pain in her eyes
She clung to the hand of her tall lover man
<br father

I cry myself to sleep each night
Wishing I could hold you tight
Life seems so empty since you went away
The pillow where day
Every hour you're away I feel so lonely
And I can't help it, I dont think I can go on
And it keeps right on a-hurtin' since you're gone

They say a man should never cry
But when I see you passing by
My heart breaks down and cries a million tears
You broke my heart and set me free
But you forgot (modified for present day)

There once was a musical troupe
A picking singing folk group
They sang the mountain ballads
And the folk songs of our land

They were long on musical ability
Folks thought they would go far
But political incompatibility led to their downfall

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear was a Methodist

This musical aggregation toured the entire nation
Singing the traditional ballads
And the folk songs of our land
They performed with great virtuosity
And soon they were the rage
But political animosity prevailed upon the stage

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear burned his driver's license

Well the curtain had ascended
A hush fell on the crowd
As thousands there were gathered to hear The folk songs of our land
But they took their politics seriously
And that night at the concert hall
As the audience watched deliriously
They had a free-for-all

Well, the one on the right was on the bottom
And the one in the middle was on the top
And the one on the left got a broken arm
And the guy in the rear, said, 'Oh dear'

Now this should be a lesson if you plan to start a folk group
Don't go mixing politics with the folk songs of our land
Just work on harmony and diction
Play your banjo well
And if you have political convictions keep them to yourself

Now, the one on the left works in a hedge fund
And the one in the middle drives a truck
The one on the right an all-day talk radio deejay
And the guy in the rear got drafted

P.S. When Joe and his rig roared out in the night In nothing flat, he was clean out of sight.

Well, I went inside and ordered me a cup Told the waiter Big Joe was setting me up ...you coulda heard a pin drop, it got deathly quiet And the waiter's face turned kinda white.

Well, did I say something wrong? I said with a halfway grin He said: "Naw, this happens every now and then Every driver in here knows Big Joe But son, let me tell you what happened about ten years ago.

At the crossroads tonight, where you flagged him down There was a bus load of kids, coming from town And they were right in the middle, when Big Joe topped the hill It could have been slaughter, but he turned his wheel.

Well, Joe lost control, went into a skid And gave his life to save that bunch a kids And there at that crossroads, was the end of the line For Big Joe and Phantom 309

But, every now and then, some hiker come by And like you, Big Joe'll give em a ride Here, have another cup and forget about the dime Keep it as a souvenir, from Big Joe and Phantom 309!"

Halloween Song - Ichabot Crane, Sleepy Hollow

Singer- Jim Reeves

Note: A late 50s song dedicated to the
memory of Ichabot Crane. And you know who greeted
me at the gate? The ole cowboy-philosopher himself, Will Rogers. He said
to me, he said

Tex, the Big Boss of the riders up here has asked me to
kinda show you around. Now, over yonder are a couple of your ole
compadres.
My, was I glad to see them, Carson Robison and the
Mississippi blue yodeler Jimmie Rodgers.

Singing:
I dreamed I was there in hillbilly heaven
--Oh what a beautiful sight--}

Narration:
He introduced me to Wiley Post, and he showed me the Hall of Fame with
all the gold guitars and fiddles hanging on the walls. Then he said,

Tex, step over this way, there are two more of your friends I know
you'll want to see, they're waiting for you." There they were standing
side by side and smiling at me--Hank Williams and Johnny Horton.

Singing:
I met all the stars in hillbilly heaven
--Oh what a star-studded night--}

Narration:
Then I asked him who else do you expect in the next, uh, say a hundred
years? He handed me a large book covered with star dust. Will called it
the Big Tally Book. In it were many names and each name was branded in
pure gold. I began to read some of them as I turned the pages: Red Foley,
Ernest Tubb, Gene Autry, Roy Acuff, Eddy Arnold, Tennessee Ernie, Jimmy
Dean, Andy Griffith, Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter
--What?--)
Tex Ritter? stranger one fine day
Hardly spoke to folks around him didn't have too much to say
No one dared to ask his business no one dared to make a slip
for the stranger there among them had a big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip

It was early in the morning when he rode into the town
He came riding from the south side slowly lookin' all around
He's an outlaw loose and running came the whisper from each lip
And he's here to do some business with the big iron on his hip
big iron on his hip

In this town there lived an outlaw by the name of Texas Red
Many men had tried to take him and that many men were dead
He was vicious and a killer though a youth of twenty four
And the notches on his pistol numbered one an nineteen more
One and nineteen more

Now the stranger started talking made it morning passed so quickly it was time for them to meet
It was twenty past eleven when they walked out in the street
Folks were watching from the windows every-body held their breath
They knew this handsome ranger was about to meet his death
About to meet his death

There was forty feet between them when they stopped to make their play
And the swiftness of the ranger is still talked about today
Texas Red had not cleared leather fore a bullet fairly ripped
And the ranger's aim was deadly with the big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip

It was over in a moment and the folks had gathered round
There before them lay the body of the outlaw on the
